Dry Ridge Roofing

Dry Ridge Fixing for the Ridge Line

The ridge is the line of capping tiles along the top of your roof, traditionally bedded on sand and cement. Frost, rain and movement crack that mortar until the tiles rest on their own weight. As part of our Dry Fix System, this service dry fixes the ridge line only, the right call for gable-ended roofs with no hips to cap.

  • Timber batten held at the right height along the apex
  • Vented roll lets loft moisture escape at the top
  • Each tile screwed to the batten and clipped to the next
  • Clay or stone ridges re-bedded in mortar where better suited

FAQs

Dry Ridge Roofing FAQs

How do I know my ridge needs attention?

Mortar crumbs in the gutters or on the path, a ridge tile lifted or missing after a storm, and damp at the top of the loft are the clearest signs. The condition of the bedding itself is something we check up close when we survey the roof, so you never need to go up there.

Is a dry ridge better than re-bedding in mortar?

On most modern concrete-tiled roofs, yes, because it does not rely on mortar holding together through years of wind and rain. On some older roofs with traditional clay or stone ridge tiles, re-bedding and pointing in mortar can be the better match for the roof. We say which suits yours after looking at it.

Will the dry ridge work take long?

Once access is in place, the ridge on a typical house is usually lifted, fitted and finished within a day or two. Longer ridges, more than one ridge line, or damaged tiles below the ridge take more time. Your quote gives you a realistic idea of the timescale.

What affects the cost of a dry ridge?

Mainly the length of the ridge, whether your existing ridge tiles can be reused, any repairs needed to the tiles just below it and what access the roof needs. If your roof is hipped, our dry ridge and hip package covers the hips on the same visit.

What is the first step towards a dry ridge quote?

Call us or send the quote form, adding a photo of the roof if you have one. The survey and quote are free: we check the ridge and the tiles around it, then send you a written quote that sets out exactly what we would fix and how.
