How It Works

How Our New Roofs Service Works

Step 1

Looking at the roof first

We look over the roof and the loft, note the covering, the pitch and the state of the timbers, then give you a quote setting out the whole job.

Step 2

Stripping and inspecting

The old covering comes off a section at a time, and each rafter and board is checked as it is exposed, with any rot shown to you.

Step 3

Membrane, battens and covering

A breathable membrane goes on, then new battens set to the gauge your tiles or slates need, and the covering is laid course by course.

Step 4

Ridges, valleys and handover

Hips, ridges, valleys and flashings are finished and rubbish is skipped and taken away. Before the scaffold is struck, we review the completed work with you on site, so that together we can confirm everything has been done as agreed.

Is my roof worth repairing, or does it need replacing?

When the roof needs patching after most storms, the underlay is crumbling, or tiles and slates are failing across whole slopes rather than in one spot, repairs stop being good value. Our visit covers the outside and the roof space, and you hear a straight opinion on which side of that line yours falls, even when repair is enough.

How long does a re-roof take?

Roof area, covering type and weather all play a part, so you get a timescale for your own house when we quote rather than a stock answer. A typical semi or terraced roof takes from several days to a couple of weeks, and we plan the stripping so the house is weathertight at the end of each working day.

Can you fit roof windows while the roof is off?

Yes, and it is the best moment for VELUX roof windows, because the opening can be framed between the rafters and flashed in as the new covering goes on. It saves cutting into a finished roof later and suits loft rooms that need more light and ventilation.

What affects the price of a new roof?
